Fax To Email Setup

Fax To Email is a PBXware feature which gives users the ability to send received faxes to an email address specified in DID.

For this feature to work properly, you need to correctly complete the Setup Wizard of the system, meaning that Server Details must be correctly set. If you are using static configuration, you need to enter the correct IP address, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS server.
When the Setup Wizard is finished, in Settings->Servers, edit the server and in the E-mail section choose whether you will use your PBX as a mailserver (Local mailserver) or use a remote mailserver (Remote SMTP server).
If you chose Local mailserver as an option, you only need to set the email address from which you will send your mail messages. When set like that, there is a possibility that you might experience some problems with your mails not reaching its destination. This could be fixed by editing:

/home/servers/pbxware/pw/etc/postfix/main.cf

and changing line:

myhostname=localhost

to something like:

myhostname=www.domain.com

where www.domain.com is a qualified domain from which to send your mails.

If you chose Remote SMTP server, you need to set an email, SMTP IP/Hostname of the remote server (e.g. out.domain.com), and username and password of the mail account on this remote server.

Now, to set the Fax To Email feature, follow these steps:

  • Login to the system administration
  • Navigate to 'DIDs' and add/edit the existing DID
  • Under 'Trunk', select the trunk over which the fax will be received
  • If using the Zaptel trunk, set the channel number (e.g. '4' if trunk is received over port no:4), or for Voip trunk set the DID number (e.g. 55510205), under 'DID/Channel (start)' field
  • Select 'Destination'='Fax to Email'
  • Provide the extension number or E-mail address under 'E-mail/Extension' field (If using Extension number, email associated with the Extension will be used)
  • Click on the 'Save' button

NOTES:

  •  When a new fax is received it is saved in'.tif' and '.pdf' format under '/home/servers/pbxware/pw/pbxware/var/fax' directory
  •  Received faxes may also be viewed from 'System: Fax: Received FAXes'
  •  If the notification email with the attached fax file is not received, but the same fax can be seen under 'System: Fax: Received FAXes', please check your email server settings
